I fear that many who go out and evangelize are only dealing with sin in a superficial way and I am not talking about those who are preaching easy-believism. I am addressing those who have been taught to use the law for the conviction of sin, but i believe what they have been taught comes short of "The way"The Lord and the apostles used the law. When we ask someone "Have you ever told a lie?" (And they respond with a yes) and then we ask them "What do you call someone who lies? and they respond with liar. Think about what is wrong with that! We are implying that, that person became a liar when they lied and if you listen to men who use this method they never (to my knowledge) go further than that. I had a man hand me a million dollar bill tract on Friday night and I put my tracts in my back pocket so he wouldn't know I was a Christian and he took me through the whole routine and asked me: Have you ever told a lie? What does that make you? ect... So when he got done I asked him: does that mean that there is part of me that is good and a part that is bad and he responded by saying that if you tried to jump across the Atlantic Ocean the distance you fall short is the distance that Christ makes up in salvation. So I said to him; but I was still able to jump 10 feet so there is still a part of me that is good and that can do something to save myself and he was stuck, he didn't know what to say. I see two things wrong with that method. First one is that they are not aiming at the heart in Mark 7:20-23 The Lord Jesus was exposing their wicked hearts and I believe we ought to always have the same intention as we are using the law for the conviction of sin and second many have an unbiblical view of repentance because they make repentance outward and repentance is a "180" change of the mind from thinking that bad is sin and good is not to seeing that everything I ever did is sin until God saved me. You may be able to convince people that abortion is wrong and make them feel bad about their position, but have they realized that people who have fought for the rights of the unborn will go to the same hell as those who support abortion if they are not born again because their hearts are set against God.
