I often ask myself or have others ask me why we are not more consistent in our gospel witness? And I believe we must first find what we lack and then find out how to get it. What we lack is the same thing an unbeliever lacks in his unbelief and that is fear and love. How can I not share the gospel with someone and believe that they are going to hell at the same time. I should have a healthy fear for my neighbor, that he will spend eternity in hell forever without Christ. The second missing factor is a lack of love. How can I say I love my neighbor and not share the gospel with him. We need to face reality! If We are not sharing the gospel with someone we are not loving them. Can I look out my back window and see my neighbor's house on fire and just close the curtain and act like nothing is going on and say I love him? However this lack of love and fear comes from a deeper problem: for if I lack in love and fear toward my neighbor then I lack in love and fear toward God and I believe that lack of love and reverence toward God stem from a lack of prayer. My brothers in Christ we must understand that our gospel witness is powerless and will not be consistent if we are not consistent in prayer. It is God the Holy Spirit that sheds the love of God abroad in our hearts and how can that happen unless we are confessing our sin and pouring our heart out before The Lord in prayer. I believe that as many hours that we are preaching the gospel or talking about preaching the gospel is that many more hours we ought to be on faces before The Lord in prayer.
