I remember well the story of a husband who had grieved his wife. I do not know what had happened, some little awkward word or deed. He went out of the house. He had to fell timber that day, and he turned back and said, “Wife, I am very sorry. Let us part good friends. Give me a kiss.” Alas, she turned away! All day long she sorrowed, for she loved him well, and she grieved to think that he was gone without that kiss of love. He never came back again alive. Four men brought him home a corpse. She would have given a thousand worlds if they had not parted so. Now, do not part with anybody that you love with any kind of tiffs or quarrellings. End all that, for death is near. If there is but a step between you and death – if the Judge is at the door – go and wind up your little difficulties. You that have family quarrels, wipe them out.
Charles Spurgeon
“Not Forsaking the Assembling of Ourselves Together”
Hebrews 10:25
How many I have seen who once cherished the worship of God and so highly valued it that they were gladly willing to make any sacrifice to enjoy that great privilege of worshipping God with his saints, hearing the gospel of his grace, singing his praise in the great congregation, and praying together with God’s saints, who have now found something more important and valuable in their eyes; and they willingly absent themselves from the house of God. — I fear that you do so to your souls’ everlasting ruin and the eternal ruin of all under your influence!
Pastor Don Fortner
Christ did not come to make salvation possible for as many people as might someday decide to accept him as their personal savior. The Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to make salvation CERTAIN for all those the Father gave Him in the covenant of grace. If this is not so, it is not possible for anyone to be saved.
GOD’S WORD
God’s Word is always true whether we believe it or not. It is unchanging. It is unchangeable. However, when it is mixed with faith in those who hear it, there is always a change made in them. Faith makes the truth of God a REALITY to their souls. If you and I have God’s precious gift of saving faith, then our God, our sin, our Christ and His free grace are no mere theological facts to be used in religious discussion and speculation, they are VERITABLE REALITIES! We could no more deny these truths than we could our physical existence. These are no mere religious truths to us, this is where we live, this is our life. “The just shall live by faith.”
Pastor Maurice Montgomery
Christ the great I AM said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day; and he saw it and was glad.” Abraham, with eyes of faith, saw the Word of God made flesh. He saw Christ, in His humiliation as the Federal Head of His bride; perfectly obey His Father in word, thought, and deed. He saw His day of substitution where Christ, God’s holy spotless sacrificial Lamb, died under the penalty of Divine wrath being made sin for all given Him in electing grace. He saw the day of Christ’s vindication when the tomb could no longer hold Him captive because eternal justice had been satisfied at Calvary for all that Christ redeemed. Abraham saw what every regenerated object of God’s mercy see too…Christ’s day, and they, like Abraham are glad.
