Dear Praying Friends: Greetings from Chesterton, Indiana. We are staying in the basement apartment of Jeff and Annette Voegtlin, who have been spoiling us with their care for us as if we were family.
Liz is feeling basically back to normal. Her tests have been good. Her system was “shaken up” and so she is working on a combination of fluids and diet as well as an exercise program weekly to get her system to the point where she functions normally and is still protected from making more stones. We are pleased, and thankful for your continued prayers.
News from Suriname:
The Sunny Point church building is completed up to the windows level, and approaching the roof. Our major hold-back has been lack of funds. The Lord has always supplied, and in fact, He has never had a building program in the past grind to a stop because of funds. We would appreciate your prayers. I had estimated perhaps a total of $30,000 more to finish up the building.
One thought that came to me last night is that the total amount seems so large that it might seem useless to donate small donations. But every little bit helps. For example, we have needed 4000 four inch stones, at about $1.00 per stone. But an individual or a children’s group, for example could donate for a few stones. A bag of cement is $10.00. Someone could decide to donate a certain number of sacks of cement. A larger project would be for benches in the church, which will cost about $120/ bench, and we need 30 benches. Perhaps a group would want to buy a bench or more. The roofing cost is about $3000, but each piece of zinc would be perhaps $30-$40. Perhaps someone would purchase one or more pieces of roofing.
Suriname elected a new president this week, and the government will be getting new ministers in the next 3 weeks or so. I am praying that the church paperwork will still be submitted for their official recognition.
The situation with those who left the church is still not clear. They have stated to others that they want to return, but we have not seen any sign that they believe what they did was wrong or that they would accept the new senior pastor and leadership. Without that, we would be back to a divided church. So we continue to pray.
We have appreciated the time to allow Liz to get on her feet. We have been at one location, which has given me more time to prepare for teaching classes later this year, as well as extra time to see family. We especially appreciate the overlap with Marc and his family coming from Hungary, which only occurs every four years or so. We get to see the rest of the family more often.
Thank you for your continued prayers on our behalf.
In Him and Content:
Liz and Bob Patton
