Thank you so much for your prayers on Rodney's behalf as he preached this past Sunday. God gave him a wonderful message to share with all of us. We have been disheartened lately to see the attitude of some of our church members when it comes to funerals and doing ceremonial things at those funerals that are actually a betrayal of Christ. Other "Christian" foreigners have actually said to us, "You can't blame them for bowing down to monks at funerals. That is their culture!" Rodney's message pointed out that bowing to other gods is actually "adultery" against God. He used an illustration that really got our people's attention. Wang stood in front of a door calling Rodney to come visit prostitutes. He decided he had to go in because his friend was pressuring him. Our people were up in arms and ready to kill Rodney for my sake. When he pointed out that a betrayal of Christ is just as bad if not worse, the room got pretty silent! I truly believe God used this message to show people the seriousness of betraying Christ. Several people came forward during the invitation or sat in their seats to talk to the Lord. Pray that God will continue to use His Word and the things that were taught to make New Hope Baptist Church strong for Him.
Rodney also asked that you pray about our housing/church building situation. After speaking to the landlord again, it has been decided that we will be moving out in October. The other offer he has for this land is just too good for him to pass up. When we first walked into this building twelve years ago we knew this was the place God wanted us to be. It certainly wasn't the prettiest place we had looked at, but it was the first place we walked into where we felt a peace from God showing us this was where He wanted us. We were able to be a witness in this area and meet a mother and daughter that eventually accepted Christ and are still a part of our church. We know that God has another place all picked out for us, but please pray as we look for it. We know God will put us in a place where there are people He wants us to reach for Him. Prices in Phnom Penh are very high, but God has always helped us find "great deals." It will take much prayer and much searching to find the new place He has for us. Pray we do not give up and settle for anything that we do not have total peace about.
Please pray also for Pastor Sakaun as he covers the work of another missionary who is in the States on furlough. He is teaching Sunday School in our church as well as preaching the morning services every other month. He then preaches twice at the Burdine's church and then preaches at the service in his home that evening. We are so happy to see him serving the Lord with all his heart. Pray that God will keep him strong and healthy as he preaches the Word and tells people about the Saviour.
As always, thank you for your faithful prayers on behalf of our family and the people of Cambodia.
