Dear Friends,It has been a long time since I have sent out a mass mailing to update you on our lives and ministry. I hardly know where to begin. I will start with where we are.
New Hope Baptist church has now given well over $4000 to their land fund. Lord willing, they will own their own land and a building someday. We are praying that the Church will exceed $5000 in their fund by the end of the year. Our home church promised to match the offerings given here, and they have already done so. Though New Hope has not reached its goal of $6000, First Baptist Church of Bridgeport has already generously given that amount to help us by land. Thank the Lord, and "thank you" to the people of First Baptist Church of Bridgeport.
We have had 4 people accept Christ already this year, 2010, and we have had 1 baptized. We have a couple junior high age boys coming to our church and doing very well right now. They want to get baptized, but we are holding off for the parents' permission. We are using this opportunity to teach the parents exactly what the children believe, so they can decide if they will allow them to be baptized or not. This also give us a great opportunity to give the Gospel in full to the parents. Pray for these young boys, Charo & Rotena.
Adam Wood is working with us while learning the language, and the basics of ministering in Cambodia. He is doing a great job. He led 3 young men to Christ this month. He is also working on an exhaustive concordance of the Khmer Bible. This is no small task. Pray for him and his family as they work along side of us at New Hope.
Wang and Srey Oun, a couple of our best young people, are getting married next week on Feb. 5. Srey Oun is Pastor Sakaun's daughter, and Wang & Srey Oun have all the makings of becoming a wonderful team ministering to the Cambodian people. I thank God for them.
Since losing our email addresses, much work has been done to maintain and strengthen the relationship between the government and Baptists here in Cambodia. This has consumed much of my time. Please pray that God will enable a small group of us to influence government policy in order to preserve religious freedom in Cambodia. Pray also that God would help me maintain the right balance between ministry and duties dealing with the government.
Some have inquired about when our next furlough will be. It has been three and a half years since we were in America. We are due for a furlough this summer, but we feel led of God to wait another year. So our plan right now is to head home the summer of 2011. God is in control, and He can change anything He wants. (so don't write it down in ink.:))
Thank you all for your prayers and support.
Calling Cambodians to Christ,
Rodney Ruppel
