Dear Praying Friends:We do thank you for praying, especially for completing the corrections of the commentary before our leaving for Suriname. It is much easier to handle mailing the corrections by hard copy here in the USA. Thanks to your prayers and Liz's driving a good bit so that I could work in the car, the corrections were finished Tuesday afternoon.
To back up a bit, we left Crown College on Friday after a great week there. We stayed overnight in Kettering, Ohio (outside Dayton), and stayed at a home of a missionary who was away for the weekend, thus we were able to get some things done Saturday. Sunday morning at Grace Baptist Church, we were privileged to present our ministry in Sunday school, and then to preach in the Sunday morning service. We were very graciously treated by both Dr. Shaw, the pastor, and by Pastor Anger, the assistant pastor who retired from the mission field some years ago (he had been a missionary to the military).
We then drove north to Minster, Ohio for the evening service with Pastor Greg Ewing, and after a good service and a good night sleep, we traveled to Muncie, Indiana, where the Baptist World Mission annual meeting was held at Grace Baptist Church, with Pastor Collins Glen.
The mission conference is really a big deal - about 120 missionaries, board members, and staff in attendance, and the logistics are really something. There are meetings with missionary candidates, missionaries on deputation, as well as veteran missionaries. There are preaching services in the morning and evening, and the parade of nations on Tuesday night.
One of the highlights was honoring some of the staff and missionaries who had been long in service. There was a special program honoring Dr. Fred Moritz and his wife on Tuesday. Dr. Moritz retired from Baptist World Mission and is now teaching in the seminary at Maranatha Baptist College. I was privileged to show our DVD of the ministry on Tuesday evening as well.
We drove both Monday and Tuesday night to Marion, Indiana, and stayed with my brother Richard. His wife was away helping care for a family member that week. We enjoyed seeing him. He has been very diligent in losing weight and is nearly 80 pounds lighter than last year.
On Wednesday, we drove to Midwestern Baptist College and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan. We had a nice time eating out with Dr. Crow, the pastor, and Dr. Fortna the dean of the college and their wives. I had the opportunity to show our DVD and preach on Wednesday night service, and then to preach again in chapel the following day.
Thursday we drove to Sheridan, Michigan. We are enjoying a beautiful prophet's chamber here until Sunday morning, when I will be preaching at Beth Haven Baptist Church. We will then drive to South Bend and our home base. I will be preaching at the evening service there. It will be good to be back to one location for the rest of our time in the USA.
We praise the Lord for safety thus far on the road, as well as excellent meetings and a good time in Christian colleges teaching.
