Call to Worship
Come, Thou Almighty Comforter
And bring upon Thy wing
Sweet consolation to each soul
That we may praise and sing.
We want to hear, we want to see
We want to know Christ more
We want sweet foretastes of His love
As we have had before.
And shall we come in vain to God?
O Lord, that cannot be
Thy promise stands engaged to come
And bless e'vn two or three.
Lord, give more love, more sincere faith
More confidence in Thee
Break off our legal chains, O God
And l et our souls go free.
(Tune: "Come Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove")

Consider ordinary farming. The grain of wheat must first be buried and lose its form before it springs up again and bears fruit. So it is with the Son of man. He must be crucified for sin, buried, and rise again that the law might be honored, the justice of God might be satisfied, and there might be a gospel of life. If He does not die (like the corn of wheat), He abides alone with no people, no fruit! Without His blood and death, there is no remission of sin. But His death will be productive of much fruit from every tribe, kindred, and nation.
So it is with those who would be disciples of Christ. If we hold to, protect, and shield this life from being crucified and buried with Christ, if we refuse to be identified with Him in truth, suffering for the Gospel even to death, we shall lose our soul. But if (like the farmer who in faith cast his wheat into the ground, believing in the future harvest) we cast our lives, hope, and future to Christ, with Christ, and for Christ (caring not for worldly security, comfort, nor praise), we shall live forever (II Timothy 1:8-12). - Pastor Henry Mahan
Matthew 17:9 "And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead." Now that He is risen, tell it to every man.
Listen to the Whole Message
Pastor John Chapman
Matthew 17:22-23 " And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men: And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry."
Our Lord began to show unto his disciples how that he must suffer and die and rise the third day. They were so overcome with grief that they missed the good news that he would rise the third day. It would do us well to listen to the whole message; they heard one point of his message, but missed the message. Therefore, they missed the blessing of his resurrection. The good news is in the whole message.
The pardon which God gives us is not a smothering-up of our sins, nor a blinding of justice. God is as just in His pardons as in His punishments. It shall be seen at the last, when believers enter into their glory, that they rise there by law, just as surely as the lost sink down to hell by law: that is to say that the Lord Jesus hath rendered to the law such recompense by His perfect obedience, and His matchless atonement, that it shall be just on God's part to save His elect as to condemn the unbelieving world. - C. H. Spurgeon
The church of God has many critics, but no rivals. This is the Family of God, the Kingdom of Heaven, the Temple of the Holy One, the place where Christ manifests forth His glory, spreads His table, and meets with His people. Blessed beyond description are those people who are privileged to be a part of this family! Truly, as Paul puts it, this is "a habitation of God through the Spirit!" - Pastor Don Fortner
