CALL TO WORSHIP
For unto us a Child is born
To us a Son is giv’n
The government shall rest on Him
Th’ anointed One from Heav’n
His name is Wonderful, Counselor
The Mighty God is He
The Everlasting Father and
The humble Prince of Peace.
The increase of His government
And peace shall never end
He’ll reign on David’s ancient throne
As ruler of all men
Upheld with justice, righteousness
Forever His reign will last
The zeal of the Lord God Most High
Will bring these things to pass.

THE BIRTH OF CHRIST
At this time of year, most of the world is thinking about the birth of Christ. I know there is a lot of error in man’s thinking, but I am still thankful that we are forced to think about the birth of Christ at this time of year.
I am convinced that the natural man loves to think about baby Jesus being born because they want a Savior who is helpless and who needs them to do something for them. I wish they could understand it is not the babe in the manger who saves. The Savior who saves is the full grown man who died on the cursed tree after a life of perfect obedience to the law. The Savior who saves is to be bowed to in worship. The Savior who saves sinners is the King who is to be begged for mercy. The Savior who saves is God in human flesh. That could not have happened unless a child was born and the Son was given. (Is. 9:6)
I am all for anything that makes us think about such a gracious miracle as the Son of God who was born in the flesh so that He could save His people from their sin.

HE IS ABLE
One of the most comforting, encouraging statements in all of the Word of God is that God is able. The Lord Jesus Christ is able to completely save the worst of sinners. “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Heb. 7:25) Christ the Savior is able to save His people and to keep them saved. “I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (II Tim. 1:12) Our God is able to make His people to stand in Christ. “Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.” (Rom 14:4) Our God is able to bring His people to glory and to give them a body just like the sinless body of Christ. “Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” (Phil. 3:21) Our Savior is able to present His people without any sin before the Father. “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.” (Jude 24)
I can’t think of a better reason for the unbeliever to come to Christ for salvation than He is able. I can’t think of a better reason for the believer to confidently trust Christ and rest in Him than He is able.
Pastor
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16).
Does that mean that water baptism is necessary for salvation? Was the thief on the cross baptized? No. Was he saved? Yes. That answers that question! So why did the Lord say this? In making that statement He tells us the requirement for baptism: faith! “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” Only those who believe are to be baptized. Not only does this deny infant baptism, but it says if I went through the ceremony of baptism before I really believed the Gospel, it was not true baptism, but a meaningless religious ritual. The requirement for baptism is faith in Christ. If we believe the Gospel, we are to be baptized!
