CALL TO WORSHIP
Sovereign grace o’er sin abounding!
Ransomed souls, the tidings swell

‘Tis a deep that knows no sounding

Who its breadth or length can tell?

What from Christ that soul can sever

Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him forever

None can pluck thee from His hands.
Heirs of God, joint-heirs with Jesus

Long ere time its race begun

To His name eternal praises

O what wonders Christ hath done.
On such love, my soul shall ponder

Love so great, so rich, so free

Say, while lost in holy wonder

Why, O Lord, such love to me?
(Tune: “Jesus Calls Us” p. 374)

TELL IT AGAIN: ONCE IS ENOUGH
“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in ONCE into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Hebrews 9:12)
“For by ONE offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14)
The sacrifice of Christ is so effectual it never has to be offered again. The Lord Jesus Christ is so precious that His one sacrifice paid for all of the sin of all of His people forever.
The sacrifice of Christ is so wonderful that His people cannot hear of the one who was sacrificed once too often. Those who are redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ never get tired of hearing of the glorious effects of that sacrifice.

THE DAY OF PENTECOST
The greatest miracle on the day of Pentecost was not the sound of a mighty rushing wind, the cloves of fire, or men speaking in tongues. The greatest miracle on the day of Pentecost was that sinners heard the gospel of Christ, believed on Christ, and were saved. I wonder which miracle we are most interested in seeing? Do we want to see physical miracles and speaking in tongues or do we want to see the miracle of God saving and feeding His people through the preaching of Christ?

FIVE SEARCHING QUESTIONS
1.) Are my desires for a saving interest in Christ genuine and sincere? He accused some of following Him because of miracles and for loaves and fishes. I would win Christ!
2.) Are my desires for a saving interest in Christ honoring to Him? I would be saved only in that way which honors His law and satisfies His justice – the way of the cross!
3.) Are my desires for Christ permanent or only a passing fancy born of emotion? A true desire for Christ has nothing to do with health or wealth, time or trouble, feelings or flesh; it is a heart quest.
4.) Do my desires for Christ lead me to seek Him in His Word, in His house, and among His people? I am not ashamed of the gospel, those who preach it, nor those who believe it. I would be identified with Him and His.
5.) Will my desire for Christ find no full satisfaction until I awake with His likeness? If so, I may entertain a good hope that I am an object of His love.

Why?
Why did Christ come into this world? - “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” - 1 Timothy 1:15
Why did Christ die on the cross? - “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” - Galatians 3:13
Why did Christ rise from the dead? - “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.” - Romans 4:25
Why did Christ ascend back to glory? - “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” - Philippians 2:9-11
