CALL TO WORSHIP
Come, humble sinner, in whose breast, a thousand thoughts revolve
Come with your guilt and fear oppressed, and make this last resolve.
I’ll go to Jesus though my sin, hath like a mountain rose
I know His courts I’ll enter in, whatever may oppose.
Prostrate I’ll lie before His throne, and there my guilt confess
I’ll tell Him I’m a wretch undone, without His sovereign grace.
Perhaps He will admit my plea, perhaps will hear my prayer
But if I perish, I will pray, and perish only there.
I can but perish if I go, I am resolved to try
For if I stay away, I know, I must forever die.
But if I die with mercy sought, when I the King have tried
This were to die, delightful thought, as never sinner died!

MY PEACE I GIVE UNTO YOU (John 14:27)
The Savior gives all of His people HIS peace. He gives His people the same peace that He has with the Father! He has taken away all of the sin that makes God angry so there is perfect peace. The Father loves His people with the same love that He has for the Son! The Father accepts His people as completely as He accepts His Son! Having perfect peace with the Father gives God’s people peace of heart as we go through the trials and difficulties of this world because we know our Father is not dealing with us in anger. Having perfect peace with the Father gives believers peace of heart when we think about leaving this world and going into eternity. If the Father is at peace with me now, how glorious must that peace be like in eternity!

NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS
Our God has one standard to which He holds all men. His Holy nature will not allow Him to make any exceptions. There will be no appeals allowed for His righteous judgment. We must be found in Christ (the Perfect Man Ps. 37:37) or we will be found wanting, having fallen short of His glory. The clearest evidence of this is the cross. When Christ Jesus, God’s Darling Son, was made sin, the Father could show no mercy. He could make no exceptions. His Holiness required death. The full fury of His wrath must be poured out. The sword of His justice must be wet. Here is the sinner’s Hope. The fire of God’s wrath has been quenched. It consumed the Sacrifice… and the Sacrifice consumed it.

Missing the First Button Hole
Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
In false religion I thought I had done a pretty good job of buttoning the shirt of my self-righteousness. I never realized the first button hole, the foundation, was missed completely. When the top of the shirt is reached after missing the first button hole there is only one thing to be done, unbutton the entire shirt and start over. God’s gospel shows that we must unbutton our shirt (repent), yet we will not and cannot do it. God’s gospel reveals that anything we do as part of salvation is iniquity. His gospel makes us see that everything we count as our righteousness, is now counted as dung (Phil. 3:8). It takes the work of God in the heart in order for us to repent. It is the Lord that must give the faith of Christ that causes us to look to Him as all our righteousness before God. God’s gospel shows us that failing to line up the shirt properly, and missing the first button hole, is truly not the root of the problem. By his grace, Christ reveals that he must not only completely unbutton our shirt, but give us a new shirt that is whiter than snow. He must strip us naked and robe us in his righteousness. We must have Christ as our covering before God. This is what the gospel of Jesus Christ reveals and does for God’s elect sinners all by His grace!
