As reported in The Greenville News yesterday, Bob Jones III endorsed Romney for president. His rationale: "This is all about beating Hillary."
What a beautiful encapsulation of the meta-ethical principle guiding human action among "conservative Christians!" (I'm not really interested in his endorsement. It his the man's rationale that captured my attention.)
It reminded me of that great pragmatist Uzzah. Responding to the Jerusalem Star on why the ark would not be carried by poles but by ox cart. "It's all about keeping the ark from hitting the ground," I think is what he said.
What is this meta-principle operating in the evangelical and fundamental ethical construct? Is it pragmatism or the law of God? Beating Hillary or Exodus 18:21 and 2 Samuel 23:3?
I thought that it was "all about fearing God and keeping his commandments."
Pragmatism is the Teflon lining on the slide to Gomorrah.
