Next Sunday evening, August 12, we will have a special evening service beginning at 6:00 p.m. when Eric Floyd will be ordained an elder. We will have a time of fellowship following the service. Also please pray for Eric as he preaches this morning in San Diego. HAPPY IS THE MAN
Everyone wants to be happy. I understand that. I would rather be happy than sad. The problem comes when someone sets out to make themself happy. They will almost always use, “I deserve to be happy” or “I just want to be happy” as an excuse to make themselves happy at the expense of hurting someone else. As always, fallen man has perverted the meaning of something good.
God’s Word says the person who is happy is the person who is a child of God. “Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: thereforedespise not thou the chastening of the Almighty”(Job 5:17). The Lord only corrects His children whom He loves (Heb. 12:7-8). If you want to be happy, seek to be found in Christ. How happy we should be to be a child of God! This is happiness that can never be lost.

To pursue union at the expense of truth is treason to the Lord Jesus.

Sovereignty and Responsibility
One might ask, “how do you reconcile God’s sovereignty with man’s responsibility”? The answer is simple. They don’t have to be reconciled because they are already friends. Please don’t misunderstand. I did not say, “sovereignty versus free will”. Those two things are mutually exclusive. God cannot be sovereign if man determines the destiny of his own soul.
The Word of God clearly teaches that our God is absolutely sovereign over all the free and uncoerced thoughts and actions of men. The Word of God also teaches that every person is fully responsible for every choice they make. To deny God’s sovereignty, will lead to legalism. To deny man’s responsibility, will lead to fatalism. “Him being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain”. Acts 2:23

NO KING, NO RULE, NO RIGHT, NO WRONG
“In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25
This scripture clearly describes the day in which we live. These days there is no absolute Sovereign God being preached; no Judge; no Lord on the throne, no fear of God; so there is no right or wrong, no sin, no punishment for sin; so everyone is free to do anything they like. Blame it on the pulpit. Blame our sick society on the many false preachers who have told everyone for so long now, how much God loves them all, no matter who they are or what they are doing; no matter that they live like hell and hate God in Heaven…He loves you anyway (they say). So men and women believe these liars and live as they please, with no fear of God, and no fear of any consequences for sin. Oh the great and terrible surprise people are in for when they face the true and living God; the God of the Bible; the Holy and righteous Lord and King of the universe, Who hates sin. May the same Lord unite our hearts to fear His Name, and call upon Him to have mercy on us all.
