"Exuberant Worship" Psalm 115:1-11, Psalm 96. Text: Psalm 100 This Psalm epitomizes worship and symbolizes worship. (The "Old 100th") Psalm 100 sets forth the character and the requirements of public worship. The delight of the sanctuary should never be set aside!
The object of worship is Jehovah God. One name reoccurs and dominates this Psalm. "Know ye that Jehovah is God." This is not knowing about God, but we must ACKNOWLEDGE that Jehovah IS GOD! (VERY fundamental.) Not idols or gods of imagination that we are comfortable with like so often we see today. You can trace this from the Old Testament all the way to us, His people. God has so revealed Himself in His word. Even in the 1st table of the Law it clearly states NO other gods before ME! He has made us and we are HIS people. (And recreation that He has touched us in our heart of hearts with and made us anew!) Nothing more powerful than the opening of the Law. "I AM the Lord thy GOD!" We see God's eternal election doctrine right here.
Why are we the people of God? To show forth HIS glory...HIS praise! This begins in the sanctuary! God dwelt with His people in the temple and now "come into His presence!" The Lord is NOT impressed with buttresses and tall steeples, but impressed with His people with humility and humble hearts with contrite Spirit and jubilation as they come to worship HIM!!! Do we want to know what worship is? Read Psalm 100! Today many churches ask "How can we entice the people?" This is BESIDES the point! God DEMANDS "come into His courts with praise and bless His name!" Do we have that joy of going to Church in our hearts? Do our children see it in us? Do YOU have that exuberant joy in your heart to coming into Church? Do we all "make a JOYFUL noise unto the Lord?!" Although we may not have the best voice the cumulative praise is sanctified to His praise and His glory! Not only one day a week on Sunday, but ALL the days of my life as the catechism puts it!
We ARE the sheep of His pasture prone to stray and needing to be led in green pastures. That is why we put the pulpit FRONT and CENTER! Nothing else in this life should come in first place other than the pure preaching of the Word of God! His Word, His praise, His glory and NOT yours!
Take inventory and see what the Lord has done. Count your many blessings....and He has not dwelt this way with anyone else. And these blessings endure through generations!
May we ALL be FAITHFUL as God DEMANDS of us and from us to the praise of HIS GLORY!
