Prayer for the church:
Continue to praise God for honouring the work done in the name of Christ through the Holiday Bible Club. Pray that we may see many of the children attending youth meetings in the coming weeks.
Let us continue to pray that the challenge of the gospel will bear fruit in many lives.
Remember the many in the fellowship who continue to undergo various trials and difficulties.
For Wider Area:
Christians help Solomon Islands tsunami victims World Vision is leading aid efforts in the Solomon Islands after a devastating earthquake and resulting tsunami hit the South Pacific nation April 2.
World Vision's Rachel Wolff says "We are estimating that about 5,000 to 6,000 people have lost shelter or food. That could be a bit higher because this is an area with 90,000 people, so we're still unsure of that as well. We may know more within the next few days. We think that as many as half the population may be homeless."
While World Vision has been able to get supplies into the region, Wolff says they've faced other problems. "The challenge for aid agencies has been distributing the aid. Boats are the main way of transportation in between islands, but most of them had been destroyed by the tsunami. Yesterday, World Vision was able to get two boats to use."
While providing aid is a priority, Wolff says since that they're a Christian organization, they have other priorities, as well. "Faith motivates everything we do. People know that we are Christians. They know why we are doing what we're doing. We certainly partner with churches. Our hope is to be the hands and feet of Christ, especially in these life or death situations."
Christian radio set to go on the air in Indonesia Central Sulawesi, Indonesia has been a hotbed for sectarian violence. Christian/Muslim riots have been common. In June, however, the Gospel will reach into this area.
Country Director of Back to the Bible Indonesia, Frans Silalahi says "Our main goal here is to reach the unreached people, especially the tribes, the Wana people and the second is the Mori people. There are more than 20,000 people that live on the coast, and that's our first target,"
Starting a radio station hasn't been easy in this area. To get there Silalahi says he flies three hours from Jakarta. Then, he gets on a bus and rides for another 13 hours. He then gets on a boat for almost two hours. Then, he travels by motorcycle for three more hours.
Despite these challenges, the station is making great progress, Silalahi says, "We already have our studio. Our tower is erected, but we're waiting for the transmitter to arrive from the United States in June."
Getting the radio station on the air is just one issue facing them. "95-percent of the Wana people have no radio receiver. We will have a project to give the radio receivers to these people. So, when we broadcast the Gospel, they will be able to listen to this radio."
Weekly Bible Readings:
2 Samuel chapters 16-22 Luke chapter 2-8
Thought for the Week:
“Every High Priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.” Hebrews 10:11-12
