Thank you for you kindness and generosity to Janet and me over the holiday season and all year long. I thank our God to be the pastor of and a member of this congregation. LOVING GOD
Everyone says they love God, but do they? I don’t have any doubt that they love the God of their imagination. Men love themselves and men make up a god who is just like them. But if we truly love God, we love God as He is pleased to reveal Himself in His Word. God is not who we think He is. God is who He says He is in His Word. If we love God we love the Sovereign who has every right to do with us as He pleases. If we love God we love the God of election; we love God of particular redemption; and we love the God of undeserved, saving, calling, keeping grace. If we refuse to believe the gospel that declares this God, we do not love God (John 5:42-43). If we do love God it is because He loved us first (I John 4:19).
“Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave.”
Martin Luther
How much are we beholden to the restraining grace of God for preserving any thing of the honor and decency of the human nature! For, were it not for this, man, who was made but a little lower than the angels, would make himself a great deal lower than the devils.
Matthew Henry
Dwell Together In Unity
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity"
(Psalm 133:1).
I preached last week for such a delightful and enthusiastic crowd in Canada, Kentucky. After having dinner with about twenty people at the pastor's home, we adjourned to the porch for coffee and talk. The Pastor lamented the apparent divisions and schisms among the people who believe and preach the gospel of God’s free grace. “It ought not to be so!” he said. “For those who are loved by Christ and who claim to love Christ, not to love one another is beyond understanding. If the person and work of Christ, or the character of God, or the authority of Scripture divides us, then so be it; but let us not defend our personalities, programs, traditions, and personal peculiarities to the point of separation from true believers. ”It is always good while building new fences to check out and mend those which have served our cause for years! Brethren, let us love one another, for love is of God!
Pastor Henry Mahan (1982)
Matt. 6:31-32 “Therefore take no thought saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.”
For the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, isn’t it comforting to know that our Father Who has chosen us in His Son, that the Lord Jesus Christ Who has redeemed us by His blood, and the Holy Spirit, who has quickened us by grace and sealed us unto the day of redemption, will never leave nor forsake us? He who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, shall He fail to provide for our temporal need?...He said that He wouldn’t…and God cannot lie! (Titus 1:2).
