Prayer for the church
Pray for Mark Roper as he plans to move this Friday.
Please pray for Simon as he sees his consultant this week.
Continue to pray for our local churches without pastors and few committed workers.
Continue to pray for Mark Tracey as he seeks employment.
Continue to pray for Joan Whyte that she will be restored to health and return home to Michael. Pray that she will be enabled to be a bright witness in the hospital. She was transferred back to surgical ward from I.C. on Friday.
Pray for our weekly activities:
That all the children may attend regularly.
That leaders may undertake all their work in prayerful dependence upon Christ.
That leaders will be given all the grace needed.
That the church will be diligent in prayer that we may see conversions ultimately resulting from all these outreach activites.
That we will be given the sensitivity to encourage one another in the work of the Lord.
For the local area:
West Ham Pray that Newham Council will approve our church plan for a new building. Pray for physical and spiritual growth of West Ham Baptist Tabernacle.
For Wider Area:
NEWS FROM BLYTHSWOOD - THE GOSPEL FOR THEMSELVES When Blythswood volunteers process gift boxes donated to the Shoe Box Appeal they insert a children's Bible story book in the appropriate language, or a Scripture Calendar if the box is for an adult. But finding a book suitable for teenagers has not been easy.
In 2005, Rev Dominic Smart, minister of Gilcomston South Church in Aberdeen, undertook to write daily reading notes on the Gospel according to Mark, suitable for younger readers. The result is 40 Days with Jesus which was published last year in six languages, including Albanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Serbian and Romanian.
"This is Bible study for young people who don't have Bibles," says Blythswood's Christian literature coordinator, James MacDonald. "For each day there is a reading from Mark, a short lesson, a think spot and a prayer. This book encourages us to read the Gospel for ourselves and to think about what it means for our relationship to God.
"Although written for teens it is being read by older people, too. Nationalist agitation against non-Orthodox denominations resulted in Catholic, Baptist and Pentecostal churches receiving police protection during Serbia's January election campaign. Three policemen sent to guard the Evangelical Church in Vranjacka Banja joined the congregation for coffee after the service and were each presented with a copy of 40 Days with Jesus.
"We had a wonderful discussion with them about the Bible and the Christian message," says Pastor Dragisa Armus. He says that 40 Days with Jesus has been very useful to him and to other pastors in their ministry. "It is good for a fresh contact. The title gives us an opportunity to explain how it is possible to spend time with Jesus.
Of the 10,000 copies printed in Serbian, 6,000 have already been distributed, some with Blythswood shoeboxes and others by churches. It is also being used in home Bible study groups.
"I have had reaction from several churches" says Dragisa. "They say that the book is very special for them and helps them to understand the Bible better.
"It is indeed a great blessing to our mission and we pray that it will lead many to Jesus and help many to know Jesus more.
