I am preaching this morning for a group near Quakertown, PA. The Lord willing I will be returning home tonight. We are blessed to have brother Eric Floyd preaching for us this morning. May God be pleased to bless both preacher and hearer everywhere His Word is preached this morning.
JEHOVAH-JIREH
We all need the things of this life. We need what our Lord called our daily bread: food, clothing, and shelter. We know it is the Lord who provides all of those things for us. Everything we have has come from His sovereign hand.
But our greatest need is the Lord Himself. Christ Himself is every blessing that a sinner needs. The name of the Lord is Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord will provide. The Lord has provided everything His people need in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sinners must have a sacrifice for sin so God will pass over our sin. Christ is the Passover sacrificed for His people (I Cor. 5:7). Sinners must have a righteousness that we cannot produce for ourselves. Christ does not just provide a righteousness for His people, Christ Himself is the righteousness of His people (Jer. 23:6). Sinners must be given rest from trying to keep the law as a way to earn salvation. Christ is our Sabbath rest (Heb. 4:9-10). Sinners must have mediator with the Father. Christ is our mediator. The only way a sinner can approach the Father is in Christ our mediator (I Tim 2:5).
My friends seek Christ with all of your heart for everything a sinner needs is Christ.
Not long ago I was sitting in the study of a pastor friend of mine when I heard someone calling my daughter's name. I kept hearing a little voice hollering, "Hannah ... Hannah." After hearing this a few more times, I finally looked up and there was a small boy standing at the door calling to me, "Hannah ... Hannah." He didn't know my name, but he knew that I was Hannah's dad; so he was trying to get my attention by calling her name. I dropped what I was doing and entertained the little fellow.
If you want to get the heavenly Father's attention, the best way to do so is by calling on Him in the name of His Son. That "Name which is above every Name" is music to the Father's ear, and all who call upon Him in that Name will get His attention. The Father dearly loves the Son and "He that loveth the Son will be loved of the Father" (John 14:21). The Father always hears the Son and will always hear those who call upon Him in the Name of the Son (John 16:23; I John 5:14). "God is Spirit." "No man hath seen God at any time." We don't know much about God, but we do know the Son. The Son of God has been seen... looked upon ... handled." ". . The only begotten Son, He hath declared Him," and we can be confident of having an audience with the Father and being received by the Father because of our relationship with the Son.
Pastor Paul Mahan
God’s servants may well think themselves happy and forever indebted to that free grace which made them so, when they see how miserable some of their neighbors are for want of that grace, who are hardened, and likely to perish forever in unbelief, and what a narrow escape they had of being among them.
Matthew Henry
The heart of sin is man in the garden wanted to be like God (Gen. 3:5). The heart of salvation by grace is that the Son of God became a man to save sinful men and to make them the righteousness of God in Him.
