"Where are the real Christians? Are you one?" this question needs to be re-directed right back to the one who points a self righteous finger at others, but never looks within his own works based self righteous beliefs. if 'john uk' is a picture of what christianity is- keep me FAR from it.

“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be [d]humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”- what an extraordinary teaching the Lord gives here. We have Pharisees today who insist you simply must conform to their list of do's and don't's. Even though they themselves fail to detect the sin of self righteousness within their own bosom. The greatest deception is self righteous sin. The gospel these self righteous cleave to is accursed, for they add works to their religion. Then they come on forums like this and exalt themselves and impose their demands on others. What sin is at the root of self righteous religion? Pride.'As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.' Don't feed into it.....

indeed CES.
It seems Lurker has nailed it in his comment from 9:20 p.m. The 'pride' God hates is SELF-RIGHTEOUS spiritual pride. We see MUCH of that here from a couple of posters who insist their view of pride is correct. Isn't that in and of itself prideful? Indeed. This forum is rife with the very thing some think they are free from.

Amen CES, the religion of 'do's and don'ts' is nothing more than modern day Pharisee-ism. They trot out their opinions as though they were inspired. They are most miserable of all, continually working at their 'religion' to satisfy their 'god'....'22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." matt. 7. They think themselves presentable based on their 'works'. How tragic their end will be...

This is a great sermon for the self righteous Pharisees {and works based crowd} that insist on their views as 'right' continually, sadly, they will NOT see their own sin of self righteousness, it's undetectable to their own conscience - https://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?m=t&s=830091141222&fbclid=IwAR1mpKU_ntRqkmAKZtHiNwnkwklsjdeyad5SrzM1XyFad5BWxtXE_Hv7HgM

Those who chastise others concerning pride are blindsided by their own pride. Pride is linked to self righteousness, that is the pride God despises, 'oh God I thank thee I'm NOT as other men are!" . Self righteousness is an indication one is still outside of Christ, much like the scribes and pharisees. "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven". One must be clothed in the righteousness of Christ; if the gospel you cleave to does not speak of His righteousness, you have no gospel {see Romans 1:16 AND 17}. Most add 'works and conditions' to their gospel, making it an accursed gospel. Some think you have to keep the law, others say you must repent of sin for God to save you. Since we never stop sinning, how is it one can be saved? Repentance is a change of mind; seeing your self righteous attempts to earn merit before God are dung. Only God can open the blind eye to truth. Meanwhile, those who exalt themselves and their 'knowledge' over others are prime examples of what God hates.
Please make time for this-https://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=52009125530&fbclid=IwAR2f3zu05n136MQ2jwcUmcSWikpPEx7Q7U0qJBS4MW7FEyYGKrNLSltTnkk

buckeye- you missed the forest for the trees....

Now, is commentary from any mortal reliable? Does the bible give evidence of Christ's birth as being on December 25th? Would the shepherds be out at night watching over their flocks in the dead of winter? Think this through.....

Is it a 'sin' to be grateful for Christ's birth? No. It's flat out wrong to try and claim His birth is Dec. 25th when the Bible makes no such claim.

may all have a great day....

Might want to check into Hippolytus - His writings 'apostolic traditions'- It is from the Apostolic Tradition that the current words of episcopal ordination in the Catholic Church come from, as updated by Pope Paul VI. He had a love hate relationship with Rome. He reconciled with Rome before his death, his influence is still obvious today as Rome exalts their 'saint'. It's no wonder his 'commentary' would make a claim of Christ being 'born' Dec. 25th. Do remember this, the Bible is the ONLY source of truth, not the commentary of mortal men. If you can find the birth date of Christ in the bible, you will be onto something....

Jim L.

Have enough respect to let others come to their own conclusion as to what translation they prefer. Your statement, 'if you want the best, you get the nasb, and esv is a close second' is merely your opinion. It seems you spend most of your time reading links and commentaries, so how would you even know which translation to recommend?
Others can do their own research if they so desire. If one prefers the KJV, what business is that of yours?

I don't care what the KJV only folks have to say. I get sick and tired of people in certain camps, like yourself Jim L., who trash a translation based on a cult type following. Not all who prefer the KJV are in that camp. You have many comments throughout these boards where you seek to trash the KJV and exalt your NASB, so you are no better than those who do just the opposite. It is like a grade school playground fight and I am embarrassed for you Jim L. and for those who thrust their opinions off as absolute truth.

I am not a KJV only type, however, it should be made clear to them and Jim L. it is a matter of preference. I have no problem reading the KJV at all and I do prefer it to the modern translations. I do NOT cram my preference down anyone's throat and grow tired of those who do. I do admit there are translations to be wary of, doing your homework should cause one to avoid this.

Jim Lincoln

You need to cease from insisting others use a translation you prefer. Rather than argue over translations, examine your own heart. Spend time on your knees in prayer and less time giving out links and commentary from others.

If one chooses the KJV over other translations, what business is it of yours? There are tons of links that speak out against modern translations as well, so why are your links superior? They aren't.

If you use anything other than the KJV, that is your preference. Please, allow others the same courtesy.

Additionally, the two Army EO Equal Opportunity representatives presenting to us at the Command level didn't know the difference between national origin and ethnic background until a chaplain and JAG officer corrected them and one still contended that national origin was subjective given his being multi-racial. And there was even more confusion when sexual orientation and gender identity came up.

One more year of this, not going for 20 in this atmosphere.

I just heard the news bit on this. Women leading an infantry into battle? Female Seabees, Rangers, and Green Berets? Women barking orders at men and acting like men?
I can't stand to see a butch woman, a woman with short hair, a woman dressed as a man, or any woman doing things a man should be doing, lifting, or leading. Such a turn off, but some men like that, I guess. The lines between male and female, not only concerning outward appearance, but in how each acts and lives sure have become blurred.
We were instructed at a weekend drill in November that when there is a heavy object needing to be moved, one should not say, "I need three strong guys to moved this." Nor is proper to even say "I need three strong Soldiers." What should be said in this example is, "We need 3 Soldiers to move this."

And your false accusations continue johnuk. You are digging a deeper hole for yourself. If the Spirit resides in you, you will come under conviction. Your arrogance and blindness to your false accusations in your previous comment, which has been removed, is why you need to repent. Bear in mind head knowledge does not equal salvation. Boasting of your 'evangelizing' isn't good either - don't let your right hand know what your left is doing.

BTW, I already told you guessing gender is not your strong suit. And I already stated my moniker is used by others- that is out of my control.

Gotta run

It certainly was not for the sake of righteousness that Johnuk used slander against the sisters in Christ, provoking them with his false and slanderous statements. His mysoginic behavior is sin. He plays the victim, as though he is innocent. The most terrifying statement Johnuk made is that his conscience is clear. He cannot even see his own sins, may we pray for God to bring him under conviction. It is frightening when we cannot see the log in our own eye and fail to examine our hearts. Instead, he justifies his sin and shifts blame; if he truly belongs to Christ he will be dealt with by God according to his sins.

Slander is not truth John UK - you need to repent of your slander against the sisters on this forum. It seems pride is hard to swallow - yes the Holy Spirit has indeed been grieved this day. It is only heaping up more sin by making excuses and refusing to examine your own heart.

Your slanderous comment was so offensive, it was removed. That says a lot.

I see John UK has taken to belittling the womenfolk here, typical. Here we go again with the false accusations and labeling - is it any wonder John UK cannot attain a wife? He appears to be a misogynist. He exalts himself above the opposite sex as a 'know it all' then proceeds to try and beat them down, group them together, and shut them up. What a good Christian man he is!
