Wow, all this to confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God!

Little wonder we have no righteousness that reflects upon the corruption of this world. Must we believe according to a system, or must we believe simply because God is worthy?

Murray A,

If the assertation that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and He himself affirms that His church will be built on this confession, then what is there that needs to be added?

This is all that is needed and/or warranted for a confession of faith, all else would appear as a summary of a certain doctrinal position as seen fit to be relative to that particular format of belief. Did Peter's confession encompass all the sections of the above mentioned confessions, if so, then what need is there to reiterate his confession in seemingly endless myriads of words which appear to none effect other than to make one appear as a theologian?

Does God look upon the heart in a different light because one's confession does not pertain to a certain doctrinal position, or does God look upon the heart that is humble and obedient and that walks in the light of righteousness that reflects the corruption of this world?

I said none of the above and that
I confess Jesus Christ is Lord. So tell me what that means in terms of the named confessions. Is this the judgement seat of man, that one must adhere to any or all of the above confessions in order to confess Christ as Lord and Saviour, and that belief in Him is doubtful to say the least if one should not conform to, and obey the confessions?
Or does it mean that you are accepted by a particular denomination only by confessing that which the denomination states is necessary for confession of faith?
I ask you, what is it to confess Christ?

I wonder if the Bible had not been disected into verses (with the Geneva) would proof texting be an issue. I certainly think that it would be necessary for context to remain in place in order to interpret should the Bible be read as it was written.

Verses may well have been added for ease of reading in our English language translations, but for this purpose only, not so a particular verse may be used to justify denominationl adherence to what has been deduced as doctrine in accord with that denomination, giving full status as correct Biblical interpretation.

In this modern/postmodern era we have been given over to "influence" as the ruler of our ability to think for ourselves. Not withstanding the fact of and need for good and correct teaching, I sometimes wonder whether we rely too much on particular doctrinal and theological influence to interpret what God has given us to understand.

Abigail,

How you can answer my questions with the verses you quoted certainly attests to the fact you do not understand, nor interpret the Bible correctly. You appear to be content to take a verse out of context to suit your own purpose to the effect that you give no answer at all.

It is well to quote Scripture, but only in the context in which it was written, it is not a multipurpose tool to be used when and if it suits a particular circumstance and situation of a particular doctrinal/denominational adherence.

I wonder if we were to read the Bible from a perspective that would forego any particular doctrinal/denominational influence, what would be the result of our interpretation of each and every circumstance to which we apply its (Bible) teaching.

For example, if we were to take the Bible written before the Reformation there would be no Reformation influence from theologians added to what it says. This applies of course, not only to Reformation/Protestant theology but accross the board to all particular doctrinal and theological influence applied to interpretation.

A change of perspective can often reveal outstanding insights, for you may well be wrong.

They didn't have pentecostal feminists when the Bible was written, but now, who are you O "man" to say what a woman should do or teach or interpret in this post-modern age when all authority has been given to women under the anointing of "equality"? Get behind yourself and show respect for what man/woman has decided is best for this world.

Abigail,
Does anyone know what you say when you speak in tongues? What do you say, I've always wondered?

How is it that souls all around are perishing and going to hell before the judgement?

"They went forth after having received the wonderful gift of the Holy Ghost and preached under the anointing, resulting in a great revival."

Revival of what? Christ came and preached that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand, He didn't preach revival of the Kingdom.

Did salvation exist before Calvinism?

JD, you are right about Pia blowing smoke for cover up, for this is exactly what Calvin did with his circular "systematic theology"...went round in so many circles to cover up that which was readily called blasphemy, and thus created so much confusion as to render the reader of his institutes to exasperated acceptance of his works. "Ahhh well, he must know what he is talking about, so I'll accept that. He was a great man, the Holy Spirit surely gave him more enlightenment to understand Scripture than I can ever hope for. What will be will be." (NOT!)
I note too, that Wistens states that "We keep trying to convert JD and Yamil". Well, no wonder you boys are not converted, praise the Lord! Must be their "free will" isn't free (of Calvinism).

Abigail,

Well spoken, I couldn't agree more.

Paul Forrest,
Abigail's answer is a good example of what we're talking about, don't you think?
By the way Paul I would react the same way to any comments regarding the setting of a question.

Paul Forrest,

Maybe you couldn't select the first option if you were looking for piety and not prudence, but you could select the last option...All of the above except maybe...?

In these surveys the answers given for selection are merely a guide and do not necessarily limit the scope of an answer. If there is another option outside of the ones given then you are free to express your sentiments regarding your personal thought. You may well add an avenue of thought that no one else yet considered.
The answers given may not necessarily be subjective to the question put, therefore much thought is also required before answering.
To assume that a question is badly worded is to assume you know the thoughts of the writer and his/her intention. However this assumption would be based more on personal opinion.
Many times I have had to ponder what it is that the writer of a question is actually asking in accord with that which he/she has written. Many times also I have declined to answer because my own personal thoughts and opinions do not warrent that I can, or should answer the particular question, but it is not necessarily badly worded because I cannot answer it.

Tithing these days is not much different from buying an indulgence. There appears to be a need to see something tangible in return for what is given. Most affluent Churches would certainly know who tithes what when they look at the cheques and credit cards used to pay. What ever happened to the coins with only the Monarch's name on them? No personal account able to be kept then, only God's account.

I've seen items that were donated to a Church to be sold that were given by the Pastor to one who tithed with cheques because the Pastor thought the person had more than paid for the donated item with their tithes.

Justification???

I would certainly hope this instance is the exception, not the rule. I think the subject of tithing is one which should be approached with caution and very careful study of the word in regard to its proficient Biblical application.

Paul Forrest,
Poorly thought out question??? Which answers don't logically fit together, or at least why do they have to? Can a Pastor not have one attribute or another, or maybe all the attributes described?

Why not answer the question instead of complaining about what is logical and/or illogical and whether or not it fits together?

Do you not look for any of the above qualities in your Pastor/Preacher?
