One of the greatest challenges facing the church today is to get the Word of God into the hearts and minds of people. We are the church and the job is shared by both the preacher-teacher and the listener. I have a Biblical duty to preach and teach, and we both have a Biblical duty to hear and do. People receive so much more information packaged in very attractive ways from the world around them. Do we have any hope of success in getting people to grasp and digest the truths of the Word of God? Deuteronomy 6:4–9 tells us how we can meet this challenge. Our goal and prayer should be that we raise godly children who raise godly children who in turn raise godly children. It's the principle of 2 Timothy 2:2: "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Multi-generational discipleship process should take place in our families. A home, a church, a nation is no stronger than its parents, particularly its fathers. What a fearful and awesome responsibility God has laid upon those of us who have children. The family is under attack today like never before. I remember when my dear departed mother would be served a bowl of less than flavorful soup in a restaurant. She would say that it tasted like the chicken just walked through it. Her meaning, of course, was that the broth was not saturated with chicken flavor. Saturation in the Word of God is the key. What is the flavor of your household? What is the atmosphere?
