Jesus warned his followers that they might experience persecution because of their faith in Him. But very few of us have experienced suffering for our faith. What's wrong with our experience? Peter sets the record straight. In the first section of his letter, Peter describes the 'Normal' Christian experience. We are to live as sojourners and pilgrims, seek to live holy lives, and be model citizens, employees, and families. We are to seek to live in peace with all men. That's the normal Christian experience. In the second section of his letter he addresses the 'abnormal' Christian experience. He says that there is only a slim possibility of suffering for one's faith, but we must be prepared just in case we do suffer for righteousness' sake. We must decide once and for all who is going to be the lord of our lives! Jesus Christ is Lord, but are we willing to submit to his authority, obey Him, even if it means suffering for His sake? The benefits of doing so are great! For when Jesus is Lord, we will have a sure confidence, a hope-filled testimony, and a clear conscience! Are you submitting to His lordship over you?
