Paul rejoiced in the reality of being led by Christ as a conquered servant in Christ's triumphant procession. It is the one who has been conquered by Christ and thus bows to His every word that shares in this victorious parade. When we follow Christ's will then every action we are involved in is a victorious step forward because Christ's end is being achieved. Thus, the person who is truly Christ's captive, is always triumphant. The fragrance of Christ is His truth and when we bow ourselves to His every word, then we are His fragrance in the world. God's Kingdom purpose is for this fragrance to permeate every area and aspect of His creation. As this fragrance confronts people it has two functions: to encourage the righteous and seal the rebellious in their desire for self-destruction. No one can pretend that they have not been confronted by the truth or fragrance of Christ and their response will be either from life unto life or from death unto death.
