With the national elections only a few days away, it is important for us as Christians to have a clear understanding of God's role in Human government. Some in our county want to ban God from the political arena claiming that there must be a wall of separation between God and State. But it is impossible to separate God from the political arena for human government was God's idea, not man's. God is the source of all political power. He is the one who has established various human governments and fills the positions with men and women of His choosing. He has also ordained the functions of government which are to promote what is morally good and to protect through the punishment of evil doers. Plus God holds us accountable for our citizenship. He wants us to be good citizens both of heaven-- our primary home-- and the country in which we live-- our temporary home. We can be good citizens by submitting to the authorities over us, by praying for them, and then by letting our voice be heard through legal channels. So, no matter who wins the national election on Tuesday, that does not change the fact that God is still in control and on the throne-- that God sets up kings and deposes others. Plus our responsibilities to our government do not change as we are called upon to submit, to pray, and to say.
