It’s what Moses wanted when he begged to see God’s glory! It’s what David desired when he confessed "my soul thirsts for You and my flesh yearns for you." It’s why little Nicodemus climbed up that big tree. It’s what got Mary in trouble with Martha, seated at Jesus’ feet instead of working in the kitchen. It’s why the Apostle Paul cried: "that I may know Him!" It’s what we were originally designed for – to know God, to draw near Him, to be confident that He’s drawn near to us! God has sent His Son to make that possible. To understand how we can draw near to God, we need to see in what sense Jesus has been appointed our great high priest. In the seventh chapter of Hebrews, the author begins to declare and detail the new and better priesthood of God's Son. We begin by considering two reasons (of five in chapter seven) why Jesus is the only priest you’ll ever need: i.) He has assumed a better priesthood (vv.11-14); ii.) He provides a perfect hope (vv.15-17).
