Revelation, Restraint and Honor…

Proverbs 29:18, 23 (NKJV): Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;

But happy is he who keeps the law…
A man’s pride will bring him low,
But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

What is it that causes us to cast off all restraint and run amok? What is it that allows us to think that there is no place for external guidance and boundaries? It is a lack of the revelation of God's will and word. There is no shortage of charlatans and hucksters who will tell you all that they THINK about God, about life, about the way things ought to be; but there is definitely a dearth of true Biblical revelation, of men who will open the Word of God and say with authority "Thus says the Lord God Most High". This is tragic because there may be no time when the clear revelation of God's Word has been needed more. The sad fact is that we cast off all restraint when left to ourselves, when we are allowed to imagine the shape of creation according to our own desires. We begin to think that there are no boundaries that exist. That we are free to remake ourselves according to our own sinful proclivities, free to pretend that we are something we are not and demand that the world recognize our vain imagination as reality. This trend weakens the fabric of our society, destroys the chords of our lives and it brings us to the brink of destruction as a people. It is all born of pride and the consequence is complete and utter ruin. The simple truth is that we don’t have the ability, wisdom, insight or understanding to remake reality. Our pride leads us to believe that we can, that we are able to determine what should be at a fundamental level. This is patently false. While we may be able to invent, adjust or create ways alter our experience we cannot in any way change the truth of what we ARE, nor can we change how God created the world to function. Our attempts to deny this simply make us less than we should have been. Those who keep the law of God, those who have the humility to see His truth and align their lives WITH that truth, these will be those who are happy and who will retain the honor that God has given. Beloved, we are always faced with this fundamental dilemma; do I believe and obey God? Or do I deny Him and believe the lies of my own making? Understand this: To deny God is to seek out your own destruction. I beg you, cry to Him for mercy! See the glory of God as something desirable, as the wonder that it is, and fly to Jesus for the forgiveness, healing and life found in His blood!!
