One of the things that we must understand about sin, is that it is simply the expression the soul's condition. We are not foul because we sin, we sin because we are foul. We sin because it is our nature to do so, and every man woman and child who has ever entered this world born of human mother and human father has had the SAME evil nature. We set ourselves to DO what we LOVE, and we surround ourselves with those who also LOVE what we LOVE, AND DO what we LOVE. Unrighteousness begets unrighteousness. So it should come as no surprise to us that the voice which the worldlings long to hear will say nothing that challenges them in their sin, nothing that will oppose their agendas and their desires. Evildoers will seek and will heed falsehood. And a liar will surround himself with liars who will speak spitefully against all who seek to live in other ways. This ingrained antipathy for good, for truth, for righteousness works behind the scenes in our minds to guarantee that we listen to nothing which will upset the status-quo, that we will heed nothing that might cause us to stop and consider the propriety of our desires and the righteousness of our way… But hope rises against the backdrop of this systemic push towards evil, falsehood and hatred. We must never forget the fact of God's sovereign calling; His command to repent which is indued with power to bring life to the dead and light to the darkness. Although we might rightly expect to be rejected when we speak truth to a soul mired in sin, although we have no LOGICAL reason to believe that our preaching might actually be effective to change the world, we also have the promise of God that His Word will not return void, and that the Law of the Lord is perfect and actually CONVERTS the soul. We must be prepared for rejection, but also we must be hopeful as we fight for truth, as we speak truth powerfully into the darkness. The expectation of rejection is never to be our final position; we must be a people who never stop proclaiming the truth that Jesus Christ sets us free from sin itself! Carry the good news, tell the world that Jesus is Lord, and that Jesus saves!!
