Here is the description of the popular preacher of the day; he speaks only that which his audience wants to hear. The few words he may actually pull out of God's word hang limply in his mouth, for he neither believes nor understands them. His audience is filled with those who want the things of this world, things that have no life or value beyond this moment. Things that will all perish with the using, things that bear the stamp of Satan's delight and have no part really in the life of a believer in Christ. It is not that we should not enjoy what God has created, nor that we should not expect to be surprised by grace in the stuff of this life. It is not that God will never give us good things now, it IS a matter of priority and a matter of perspective. God is always more concerned about what He is doing IN us, how He is forming Christ IN us, how He is causing us to grow in grace. And sometimes that work means that we WILL be chastened for our sin. When God is correcting us, anyone who tells us otherwise is both a liar and a cheat, and does not in any way have our best interests at heart. And the only way that we can know if God is correcting us is to check our lives and actions against the truth of God's Word. It does not matter what the supreme court may say if they speak contrary to the SOVEREIGN GOD. Understand that this land IS under the judgement of God! We have sanctioned murder and call it choice; we have celebrated perversion and call it love; we have chased after idolatry and call it religious liberty… the hand of God will not be restrained for much longer. And pretending otherwise will only hasten our destruction. I pray that God would move in mercy over this land, cause us to turn from our evil ways, and be reconciled to God in Christ. It is our ONLY hope.
