So spoke Boaz to Ruth, when first they met. It was her faithful love for her mother-in-law that was the cause of his blessing... but it is important to note that Ruth never entertained thoughts of being faithful for reward. She loved Naomi because she loved her. She cared for her because it was the right thing to do. And the rewards that came to her were hers because God chose to bless her. From this side of the picture it seems to be an earned reward, a payment given, an even-out exchange... but that is not how God works and it is not how we are to live and think. God calls us to do what is right because it is right, He calls us to love for the sake of love itself, and the good of those we love. It is how He loves us, and what is more, it is the kind of love that is its own reward. It is the kind of love that blesses not only the one loved, but the one loving as well as the watching world around us. It is also the kind of love that calls us to bless others when we see it displayed in them!! It is the very heart of the Father for us to learn this principle... but it is also His delight to bless us in the same fashion. Fix your eyes on Him to learn how to live, how to give, how to love, and find in the eyes of your Father the unexpected blessing of His good pleasure. He will never fail to amaze and astound with the intensity of His joyous love.
