BOUND WITH CORDS THEY HAVE WEAVED “His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins” Prov. 5:22 Naaman was hanged on the gallows he built to hang righteous Mordecai on. The same field where wicked Absalom waged war with his father stood the oak he himself would to be hanged on. The mule he rode to battle was the same mule that carried him to the tree. The hair he gloried in was the same hair that served as the rope to hang him with. Unbelievers will be amazed how their own words and actions will be used against them on the day of judgment. The wise Lord will use their own words to condemn their arguments. He will use their own works to prove their inexcusable actions. Those who came to Christ to argue with him, and to justify themselves, and to catch him in his words, always went away disappointed. The plain fact is this; we are all guilty before God. If man at his best state is altogether vanity – how bad is his worse state? No man’s motives and words and actions are absolutely pure. We are sinners. Our only remedy is to confess our guilt; tell our Lord that the case against us is just. The proof of our guilt is overwhelming. We are without excuse. That we have no means of pleading our own cause. There is no sense calling our sins ‘mistakes.’ Plead guilty before God and look to the blood of Jesus our Lord and Savior to cleanse us. Confess our inexcusable guilt, and Jesus will plead his unmerited favor. Own our sins, and Jesus will plead his atoning blood. Acknowledge our transgressions, and Jesus will make intercessions for us -and not against us. If we try to justify ourselves, all we do is put our Judge in the position of pleading against us. The man who condemned himself, went down to his house justified, and the man who put up an argument to justify himself, only proved his guilt -Luke 18:10-14. -Pastor Bruce Crabtree
