The word “mortify” today means something you are shocked, or offended by. Yet, the ancient Greek word meant to “put to death.” This is a command that Paul had given the people of the Church at Colossae, and it is a commandment for us today.
You see; there is one key to this commandment. That key is found in verses 1-4. The Believer needs to have a heavenly perspective. Too many Christians are not focused on heavenly things, and become wearied and troubled, even leading to sin. This is because they have lost sight of the fact that Christ Jesus completed the work of salvation, and is the sole source of sanctification.
