The result of Adam's sin is very devastating. We not only receive a sin nature, which is spiritual death, but worse than that, we are legally dead which is the ground of condemnation. We all were legally declared legally and positionally dead in Adam and get also the sinful, corrupt nature at their conception, because of the Federal Representative Adam (Romans 5:12-21). The Elect have legal life, which is Justification by the imputed righteousness of Christ. The imediate fruit and effect of that righteousness imputed is spiritual life, or regeneration (Rom 8:10). This is so we may have a revelation understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Object of God-given faith, Who is our Life, glorified in our new hearts.
The clearest evidence of the death we have in Adam is the sin of self righteousness. By nature, this is what we highly esteem (Luke 16:15). This is the way that seems right unto man, but is death (Proverbs 14:12). Not even our natural conscience can show us self righteousness, but instead, only causes to produce more the same. Self righteousness is the sin that naturally deceives us all.
The gospel, wherein the righteousness of God is revealed is the good news. It shows Justification by the imputed righteousness of Christ, merited by His life and death. It penetrates the heart by the power of the Spirit to show His righteousness that we lack. It exposes the evil of self righteousness, so as to bring true God-given faith and repentance. That is when we are made to turn from idols to serve the Living God. These are the only people who can be considered Justified. Thank God alone for this!
