One of my favorite testimonies It could be objected that I am prejudiced drawing attention to this story, Pastor Mike is one of my best friends. But this is an amazing story. If I can be bold without embarrassing him, You could call this From Crack to Christ. From Impurity, to the Puritans, From the Holland Mission to the Mission field. Few men that I fellowship are more serious, are as big a student of the puritans. Not just that he reads the Puritans, he can recite their outlines from memory like few men I know. And yet few men mourn more over their remaining indwelling sin, and few men lift Christ as high as a pastor. Few men in our day long for revival as earnestly, and few men sigh and cry as for the abominations of the land, and the lack of desire for the old gospel.
I have Ref Baptist convictions myself, & wish you well, but “Amazing Grace” does not alert me to this at all. I don't know of any church that doesn't consider grace to be vital. But the rub is, they mean different things.
I think you'd do just as well naming yourselves ”2nd Catskill Church” or whatever; despite its banality, it is no less informative. And it is closer to the NT pattern.
Just found your website. Too bad the message of Christ gets lost in the title of a church these days. Good move to change the name. "Baptist" means so many things to so many different people. Thanks for your faithful ministry of the Word in Catskill. Hope to visit.
Downloaded this series As I travel this Thanksgiving to visit family, I'll be on the road for seven hours. I've downloaded this series and am eager to start listening to them even tonight (starting with this one). Thank you.
Thanks for the blog and pictures. We have had the pleasure of having Pastor Castillo in our home, since my wife is from Santo Domingo, D.R. We have been thinking of him a lot and heard an interview from the Haitian translator from IBSJ of Pastor Castillo of the situation in Haiti. It was quite moving.
We have the same problem down here in Texas. It's sad that so many "Baptist" churches no longer "contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Thanks be to God for His Amazing Sovereign Grace!
