We have changed the name of our church from Trinity Baptist Church to Amazing Grace Church. We were concerned that the name "Baptist" in our area no longer clearly communicated what our church is all about. Amazing Grace Church helps us to quickly get to the One who is the heart beat of all we are and do... Jesus Christ! We are a gathering of people saved, washed and reconciled to God because of His Amazing Grace in Jesus Christ. Our passion is that others might come to know this saving grace as well. This is a name change, not a change in our doctrinal convictions as summarized in the1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. We would love to have you come visit Amazing Grace if you are ever in the Catskill, NY area.
I have Ref Baptist convictions myself, & wish you well, but “Amazing Grace” does not alert me to this at all. I don't know of any church that doesn't consider grace to be vital. But the rub is, they mean different things.
I think you'd do just as well naming yourselves ”2nd Catskill Church” or whatever; despite its banality, it is no less informative. And it is closer to the NT pattern.
Just found your website. Too bad the message of Christ gets lost in the title of a church these days. Good move to change the name. "Baptist" means so many things to so many different people. Thanks for your faithful ministry of the Word in Catskill. Hope to visit.
We have the same problem down here in Texas. It's sad that so many "Baptist" churches no longer "contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Thanks be to God for His Amazing Sovereign Grace!
