Great Sermon! I love listening to Dr White, but unfortunately this lesson falls short as a refutation, relying primarily on the "it's not there" argument and the "all infant baptisms were emergency baptisms". I also see a lack of understanding of the other sides argument, or maybe just a reluctance to actually address it. This is, after all a church history lesson. Overall, I have to grade this lesson very low, and wish it had stuck to just history rather than an extremely biased discussion on baptism, which, incidentally, he accuses the other side of in the lesson just before doing it himself. Still, I did learn about Tertulian and that was good.
Limited information! If this is all you were told or heard about the anabaptists you would be misguided. James White fails to talk about men such as Menno Simons and Dirk Phillips, but rather chooses to focus more on the rebellion at Münster. Be careful who you listen to because James White is either ignorant of the anabaptists or chooses to leave out information. If only he had as much grace for everyone as he has more men like Calvin and Luther who were very influenced by the Roman Catholic Augustine.
Great Sermon! Are sections 1-304 recorded anywhere online? The few I can listen to here are brilliant, but I’d love to listen to them all. Thank you in advance!
Etymology Question I’ve really been enjoying listening through this series while at work. I’ve had a couple questions throughout, but didn’t realize I could comment. I know now! :) anyway, I was wondering where your source is for feminine coming from fe minus (meaning lacking faith). I found one source that mentioned that as an etymology, but everything else says it’s simply from the Latin femina literally meaning she who suckles.
I was just wondering if there are other sources I’m missing. Or if perhaps that is just what people during the inquisition/medieval times thought the etymology was.
Interesting Sermon There is very little of the so-called ‘blood libel’ stories in Jews and their Lies (JL). The majority of JL is a warning against being converted to Judiasm. Then there is the dependence on their idea of ‘chosenness’ and dependence on eg Circumcision and descendence from Abraham John 8. I think the latter Luther studied Hebrew and read the Talmud. Very few people has actually read JL. The Jews do curse and spit on the goy. My wife had that experience when visiting Israel.
Great Sermon! Mentioned Henry the Fowler. One line of my ancestry traces back to him. My great grandfather was Hugh Madison Fowler.
Thank you for this series. All Christians should know their history.
Great Sermon! During this teaching Dr White references a Greek study he would recommend, but he never states the name. I have been trying to get the name, but I cannot get any information. If you read please help, thanks.
