The exhortation for Joshua to be "strong and courageous" came not as he studied Scripture but as he led the people of God into the Promised Land. It was then — as Joshua was serving God — that God would be with him and he would be strengthened! From these passages and more we learn the invaluable lesson that God strengthens us as we serve.
This means if you are waiting around for the time to be right for you to serve the Lord, the time will never come. Rather we must in faith cross the river Jordan — though it is at flood stage. Then we must by faith enter the Promised Land though it is inhabited by giants. And we must by faith offer Him our children. Then and only then will "Our horn be exalted in the Lord."
