In this passage Isaiah uses arguments with God in pleading with Him to come down from heaven and restore His glory. Since Scripture is the Word of God, not just the word of Isaiah, it is fascinating to consider that God Himself has authored these words and provided the argument that would prevail with Him. The argument runs like this: Where is the demonstration of Your Power, Lord? Why does Your love seem restrained? Why don't You act? Why do you seem so distant? Why have you allowed us to get in such bad shape when You could have prevented it? Why do you harden our hearts from fearing You? You are our Father. Aren't we Your children? Your name used to be great here. Look at things now! Rend the heavens and come down and help us. For those interested in the survival of Christianity in America, this is a good place to start in prayer.
