Angels do whatever God tells them to do. Although Cornelius did some good things, those things could not save him. The angel sent to Cornelius spoke to inform him to go to someone else, Peter, in order that he would hear the gospel and believe. The angel had a role to play, but his role was not to be the one who would preach the gospel. What happened in this story is truth, it is God’s word, and brings us instruction. God has given us His word so that we would believe. We often do not know what God is going to do or when He is going to do it. God does things His way, which often means that we must wait. Angels have the power to affect physical things but they are not limited to just the visible physical atmosphere. Instead of trying to get God to do our things, we should be eager to do what God commands. Angels can look like people or they can be very impressive. Satan pretends to be good and so do demons. We must be careful not to listen to any other gospel but that which is in God’s Holy Word.
