Jesus went to a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus' mother was evidently a close friend of the couple getting married. The dilemma was that they ran out of wine. Why was Mary asking Jesus to intervene to help? It was a simple request. Jesus gave her a simple rebuke. Dear woman, or "my lady" why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come. This goes beyond your role as my earthly mother. He gently prods Mary to see her need of Him to be her Savior. So, she says - Whatever He says to you, do it. Mary would ponder these things in her heart. Mary is an example to us here of great faith, to be content when God has a different plan. And see how gentle Jesus is when we stumble, when we do not understand what He is doing, or working in us. He doesn't thump us. He gently rebukes us and stirs us on to maintain an even greater faith. The wine that Jesus made that day is meant to point us to Himself who gives to us all spiritual blessings. Signs point beyond themselves. The signs are meant to show something of Jesus' glory; He who is the Son of the Living God.
