Christ executes three offices: prophet, priest, and king. He does so in two states: humiliation and exaltation. How does the Lord act as a prophet? This question can be answered by looking at two points.
1. The explanation of the term What does it mean to have Christ as our Prophet? It means that Christ reveals the Word of God to us. He tells us the will of God and also foretells in the Word of God. Christ executes the office of a prophet immediately. Christ also executes the office of a prophet mediately, or through the use of agents.
2. The execution of the task Christ has been sent forth as the prophet to whom we must take heed. There is a need for illumination in sinner's hearts. Christ teaches not just the outward, but also the inward man. Christ reveals His Father's will plainly, powerfully, and perfectly. His revelation is final. He reveals by His Word and Spirit. He continues his ministry as a prophet in heaven.
