After being stoned and experiencing a seeming supernatural recovery, the apostle Paul and company travelled to Derbe were many people became disciples. From Derbe, they then began retracing their journey to revisit the churches that had earlier been established.
With this visit Paul's purpose was to edify the believers with more preaching of the Word of God. He gave them more in-depth teaching and exhorted them to continue to trust in, and live by, the Truth of God.
He gave them guidelines for being organized and functioning together as a local body of Christ. He appointed a plurality of godly men to serve in leadership in each congregation. With godly leadership appointed, Paul turned the church over to the Lord. Individually and corporately they then had the responsibility to grow and learn how to work through issues as God would have them.
He however did not leave them without a forewarning that they would still face troubles in their lives and be confronted with opposition from the world yet under Satan's sway.
Upon returning to Antioch, Paul then gave a full report of all that God had done and how He had used them. He acknowledged that both the great receptiveness and as well as the opposition were a part of God's sovereign plan.
