Having concluded the first major section of Isaiah's prophecy, we have entered into the second section. The theme of the first section was predominantly one of judgment, while the theme of the second section is predominantly one of comfort and encouragement. In chapter 40 we had the privilege to “Behold Our God,” as Isaiah gave a vivid description of the majesty and glory of God. Now, in chapter 41, we will see that “Our God Reigns.” It is because of God's sovereignty and power that the believer can have confidence that He will fulfill all His purposes. In this sermon I develop the themes of the believer trusting and triumphing because of God's sovereignty, which is the cause of being satisfied “in Him.” This was the encouragement and assurance that Isaiah was trying to bring to the people of God in their exile. It is the very same encouragement that every believer must have in order to “press on” in the struggle toward the Celestial City. It is a wonderful thing to be a Christian in spite of the relentless warfare and the incredible obstacles, for knowing God brings supreme joy, and we have assurance of His promises.
