Having concluded the first major section of Isaiah's prophecy, we have entered into the second section. The theme of the first section was predominantly one of judgment, while the theme of the second section is predominantly one of comfort and encouragement. However, rather than giving us the “three steps” to encouragement, the method which is so common in our day, Isaiah presents a glorious picture of God Almighty. His challenge is to “Behold your God!” which is the only certain way to obtain lasting comfort and encouragement. I will follow that theme in this sermon as I try to develop Isaiah's wonderful description of our majestic God. In the outline to the sermon you will see the various points that Isaiah presented to his people. These reveal the grandeur of God in relation to the creation. God is unique within it, independent of it, supreme above it, and sovereign over it. The point is that this glorious “best of all beings” is also able to save His people, and that He will do so without failure. May the Lord be pleased to bless the preaching of His word for the good of our souls, and may we have the grace to “Behold our God!”
