What did the Lord Jesus Christ mean when He told HIs disciples that He was going away? Did this mean that they would be on their own? This would give them sorrow of heart. It is indeed a truth that adverse circumstances in our own lives can make us feel, as Christians, that we are on our own. Sorrow can be our lot too. How do we react to such circumstances.? He then went on to say that He would be coming back. Was this Jesus expressing His knowledge of His resurrection, or maybe His second coming? Alternatively, could He not have meant the coming of the Holy Spirit; the comforter, and another name by which He is known, the Spirit of truth, presenting Christ to us. This would be a promise fulfilled, and something that has remained true for all believers since then.
