Attention shifted to the Gentiles as Paul and company began their first missionary journey. As they travelled Paul apparently became seriously ill necessitating their travel to Antioch in the area of Galatia. It was at that time that John Mark parted company with them and returned to Jerusalem.
As was Paul's pattern, even being ill, he went to the synagogue and began preaching the Gospel. There he made contact with both Jews and Gentiles and as was customary, he was given opportunity to speak being recognized as a Jewish teacher.
The longest sermon of Paul's on record in Luke's history of the Acts of the Apostles was preached at Pisidian Antioch. He presented the Gospel message concerning God's promise being fulfilled in sending Jesus the Messiah in three parts. He began by introducing Jesus the Messiah who came in fulfillment of God's promise. Next he presented His coming that resulted in His rejection and resurrection. He concluded with the necessary response to the Messiah who has come.
The same message with the same warning is still being sounded today. Those who refuse to repent and believe the Gospel message of Jesus Christ's person and work will perish.
