In this sermon we continue our series in Jonah while also going back (for one message) to our series in Luke where Jesus links his work to that of Jonah. We have already learned that Jonah’s story is our story. We too have wandered from God Who has been merciful to us. We also have seen that Jonah’s story is Jesus story. What happened to Jonah happened to Jesus.
In Luke 11 the Jewish leaders demand a sign from Jesus Who responds, “Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.” (Luke 11:30). The difference is that the Ninevites listened to Jonah while the Jewish leaders refused to listen to Jesus.
Why don’t people today believe in Jesus? Would a sign convince them?
Why is our faith weak? Would something miraculous make us stronger? If not what do we need?
