This beautiful story of Ruth is given for our instruction. And we, upon whom the ends of the world have come, can benefit from it greatly. It is the story of God's bringing earthly security and happiness to two of His chosen people; a mother and her daughter. The greatest security that Naomi could ever have given to Ruth in her earthly life, was sought for and found on this night when she sent Ruth down to the threshing floor where Boaz was. I have already stated to you that it is my belief that Boaz is an eminent type of our Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. I also believe that Ruth is an eminent type of the believer who wants to know God better. In these verses she is the type of every believer who wants to bear fruit for God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Naomi is the picture of all Christian mothers who would like to find security for their Christian daughter. If you as mothers would have your Christian daughter bear fruit to God in the way that she lives her life, then you must do as Naomi did. You must teach her to go to the threshing floor of prayer and to have secret dealings with Christ. This, I believe, is the way not only for Christian daughters to bear fruit to God, but it is also the way for all of us as Christians to bear fruit to God. So let me make mention of 3 instructions which are found here in these verses, which Naomi gave to Ruth, which are also pertinent to all of us here today.
