We will look at 1 - The Similarities 2. The Differences 3. Who are the Wise and Foolish ones?
Both of these groups of people have lamps. They all went out to meet the Bridegroom. They were looking for the Lord Jesus Christ. But while He delayed, they both got drowsy. They begin to fall asleep. They were not alert in watching and waiting for Him.
When the Bridegroom comes, they all get up. He is here. The call has come! They all trimmed their lamps.
But the differences are these: The prudent took oil. They were prepared. The foolish did not take oil with them. They realized they had forgotten something. The oil. They ask the wise for theirs, but they say no. You go buy for yourselves. They leave their post. And so, while they were gone, the Bridegroom comes and the wise enter in, and the door is shut.
Who were these foolish and wise? The foolish are those who think they are, and appear to be, Christians. But they lack the oil of the Holy Spirit giving them New Birth, and grace. The wise are those who are saying - It is in Christ alone that all my hope is. The oil represented their true faith based upon the grace that they had received from Christ.
