The priesthood is critical in fulfilling requirements for man to live in a right relationship with God. The old covenant made by God with Israel that contained the Mosaic Law and functioned under Levitical priesthood. After its implementation in precise detail by Moses, this covenant was followed by a prophecy foretelling of a New Covenant with a new high priest with new promises. This New Covenant is built upon the new priesthood of Jesus Christ and renders the old Mosaic Covenant obsolete. Some of the promises in the New Covenant are realized by believers today who having trusted Him as their Lord and Savior also have Him as their High Priest.
