The Gospel According To John June 17, 2012 Sermon Lesson 85 John 18:1-11
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
We must see Jesus' glory in His arrest. Jesus set the stage for His arrest (1-3) Chose a place where His betrayer would surely find Him (1-3) Guided His disciples to that place (1-3) Jesus seized the initiative in His arrest (4-9) Challenged His arresters (4-8) Spared the disciples Jesus saved His disciples from Peter's impetuousness (10-11) Rebuked Peter for his wrong-headed zeal (10-11) Accepted the “cup” that the Father had given Him (11) Applications: Calamity is one means by which we see Jesus' glory! We can do nothing against the truth—only for the truth (2 Cor 13:8)! The eternal salvation of Jesus' sheep is secure—”I have not lost one!” Thank God that Jesus dank the cup that the Father gave Him! We need to see Christ's glory in our calamity!
